The EU POPs regulation proposes to add a new control of Methoxychlor

On May 30, 2024, the European Commission published the draft amendment to the POPs Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, which plans to revise the list of prohibited substances in Annex I of (EU) 2019/1021 to add control requirements for Methoxychlor. The draft will be open for feedback from May 30, 2024 to June 27, 2024. The main amendments to the draft are as follows:

Uses:

Methoxychlor, an organic compound, is primarily used as an organochlorine insecticide, commonly used in agriculture and animal husbandry to control pests. Methoxychlor may be present in products made from natural plant-based materials such as textiles and paper products, and relevant companies need to pay attention to regulatory trends to ensure product compliance.

POPs:
Persistent Organic Pollutants refer to natural or synthetic organic pollutants that can migrate long distances and exist in the environment through various environmental media (atmosphere, water, organisms, etc.), have long-term residual, bioaccumulation, semi-volatile and high toxicity, and have serious harm to human health and the environment.
