China RoHS officially added 4 phthalate esters control items!

On June 29th, 2024, China State Administration of Market Supervision (National Standardization Administration Committee) issued Announcement [2024] No.14 on China's national standards, and approved 109 national standards and 4 national standard amendments. Amendment No.1 to the national standard GB/T 26572-2011 "Requirements for the Limits of Substances Restricted in Electronic and Electrical Products" supporting China RoHS was officially released, and the amendment will be officially implemented on January 1, 2026.

The main contents of the amendment are as follows:

1. Add new restricted substances:

The restrictions on four kinds of phthalate esters have been formally increased, including di-n-butyl phthalate(DBP), diisobutyl phthalate(DIBP), butyl benzyl phthalate(BBP) and di-(2- ethyl)hexyl phthalate(DEHP).

2. Test method update:

The original test method standard GB/T 26125-2011 is updated to GB/T 39560 series standard to meet the test requirements of new restricted substances.

3. Adjustment of hexavalent chromium determination rules:

According to the method specified in GB/T 39560.701, the result is "hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] negative".

With the official release of the amendment, the requirements for restricted substances under China RoHS are as follows:

The amendment of China RoHS standard indicates that China's laws and regulations on restricting the use of harmful substances in electronic and electrical products are further in line with international standards, and the control of harmful substances has been strengthened, which is of great significance for improving product quality and protecting the environment. Enterprises need to adjust their strategies in time to ensure that their products meet the new regulatory requirements.
