EU adopts PFOS draft amendments to the POPs Regulation

On 14 April 2025, the European Commission adopted an amended draft of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 relating to the restriction requirements for Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS). The effective date remains pending  formal publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

About PFOS:

PFOS has the characteristics of oleophobic, hydrophobic and antifouling, and is widely used to produce surface functional treatment agents such as fabrics, leather, furniture and carpets to achieve waterproof, oil-repellent and antifouling properties. PFOS has very stable chemical properties and is often used as an intermediate to produce coatings, fire extinguishing agent foams, floor treatment agents, food contact materials, especially non-stick pan coatings.
