On October 28, 2025, the Official Journal of the European Union published (EU)2025/1482, officially amending the requirements for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in the EU POPs Regulation. The revised regulation will come into effect on November 17, 2025.
The main revised contents:

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs):
As a typical persistent organic pollutant (POP), PBDEs pose severe threats to ecological environments and human health due to their strong persistence, bioaccumulation potential, and high toxicity. Prolonged exposure may disrupt the endocrine system, damage the nervous system, and significantly impact children's development. PBDEs were once widely used as flame retardants in electrical and electronic equipment, textiles, foams, and certain recycled material products (e.g., toys, kitchen utensils).
CTT Friendly Reminder:
With global regulations on hazardous substances continuously strengthening, compliance thresholds for chemicals are accelerating worldwide. The recent revision of the EU POPs Regulation on PBDEs not only imposes stricter controls on specific substances but also signifies a comprehensive upgrade in global regulatory standards for persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic substances.
Facing increasingly stringent compliance requirements, enterprises need to proactively implement in-depth supply chain screening and product upgrade strategies.
